Job Summary:
The Pediatric Athletic Trainer will provide specialized athletic training services to pediatric patients participating in sports and athletics programs. This individual will work closely with medical professionals, coaches, and parents to ensure the safety, well-being, and optimal performance of young athletes. The Pediatric Athletic Trainer will assess, prevent, manage, and rehabilitate injuries, as well as educate athletes and their families on injury prevention and overall sports wellness.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct initial assessments and evaluations of pediatric athletes to determine their physical conditions, functional limitations, and injury risks.
2. Develop and implement individualized training and conditioning programs to optimize the performance and reduce the risk of injury for pediatric athletes.
3. Provide immediate, on-site emergency care, including first aid, CPR, and injury management, in athletic events and practices.
4. Collaborate with medical professionals to create comprehensive treatment plans and rehabilitation protocols for injured pediatric athletes.
5. Administer therapeutic interventions, such as therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, and modalities, to promote recovery and improve athletic performance.
6. Monitor and document the progress of pediatric athletes throughout the treatment and rehabilitation process.
7. Educate athletes, parents, coaches, and other stakeholders on injury prevention techniques, proper nutrition, hydration, and overall sports wellness.
8. Assess and recommend appropriate protective equipment and assistive devices for pediatric athletes.
9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including injury reports, treatment plans, progress notes, and insurance documentation.
10. Collaborate with other members of the athletic training team to ensure a cohesive and coordinated approach to athlete care and injury management.
11. Stay updated on current research, advancements, and best practices in pediatric sports medicine and athletic training.
12. Adhere to all legal and ethical standards, as well as relevant regulatory requirements, in the provision of athletic training services.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) credential from the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of Certification.
3. State licensure or eligibility for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the jurisdiction of employment.
4. Minimum of 2 years of experience in athletic training, preferably with a focus on pediatric sports medicine.
5. Excellent knowledge of anatomy, physiology, injury prevention, and rehabilitation techniques specific to pediatric athletes.
6. Strong understanding of sports-related medical conditions, including growth plate injuries, overuse injuries, concussion management, and pediatric-specific musculoskeletal conditions.
7. Proficiency in conducting physical assessments, evaluating injuries, and creating treatment plans.
8. Ability to communicate effectively with athletes, parents, coaches, and medical professionals.
9. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and documentation.
10. Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
11. Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by athletic events and practices.
